Influence of Attitude Toward the Elderly, Emotional Intelligence on Geriatric Nursing Service Quality of Nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Unit

Abstract

|
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the influence of attitude toward the elderly and emotional intelligence on geriatric nursing service quality in comprehensive nursing care unit.
Methods: A convenience sample of 164 registered nurses was used in this study. Data were collected from December 1 to 31, 2018, and were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
Results: There was a significant relationship between geriatric nursing service quality and emotional intelligence(r=.545, p<.001). Also, there were significant relationship between emotional intelligence and subfactors of geriatric nursing service quality such as tangible(r=.487, p<.001), reliability(r=.490, p<.001), responsiveness(r=.393, p<.001), assurance(r=.478, p<.001), and empathy(r=.304, p<.001). Current position(¥â=.335, p<.001) and emotional intelligence(¥â=.517, p<.001) were influencing factors of geriatric nursing service quality and the explanatory power of the variables was 37%.
Conclusion: In order to improve the geriatric nursing service quality, it is necessary to enhance the emotional intelligence
of the nurses working in comprehensive nursing care unit.
